About Bicycle Insurance & Accident
claims
If you are a pedal cyclist and have been injured on
the road you might be entitled to claim compensation if you are
insured. Ensure you use a
firm of cycle insurance accident specialist solicitors. There are many thousands
of accidents involving cyclists each year on Britain's roads. In the
vast majority of instances the accidents result from the negligence of
other road users - specifically the drivers of other vehicles. Most
accidents do not involve anything other than minor injuries - cyclists
are a hardy bunch and tend to get used to suffering the odd scrape or
fall. However, if you are a pedal cyclist or motorcyclist and have
suffered personal injury in an incident that was not your fault - you
may be entitled to claim compensation if you are insured.
Interesting cycling facts:
More than 3.5 million cycles were sold in 2007 up from 2.8 million in
the year 2000. The UK's ever expanding cycle lane network now
stretches to 12,000 miles. The average cost of maintaining a pedal
bike is no more than £75. [source Sustrans] You can see why cycling
has become so popular - particularly in an age of increasing economic
uncertainty.

What to do after a Cycling accident:
1) Ensure that you exchange details with the other party.
2) Report the case to the police if they are not already aware of the
accident. This can be of great importance if the other party does not
cooperate during any claim
3) Ensure that you receive medical advice if you have suffered injuries
in the cycle accident.
4) If possible - take photos of the accident scene (or ask a friend to
do so) to assist with any liability dispute.
5) Obtain an estimate on your cycle damage or find your original
purchase receipt if the bike is beyond repair. A replacement cost
estimate will suffice in most circumstances if the original receipt is
unavailable. Cycle accidents can be very open to disputes on liability
so you may need to prepare for the worst.
A good personal injury accident claim lawyer will always ensure that the
best possible result is achieved.
Should I claim:
If you have suffered personal injury as a result of
someone else's negligence then you have the right to make a compensation
claim. That's the first point to make.
There are limitations and you only have a certain period to make your
claim. However if you have suffered harm then you have a fundamental
right to claim compensation in certain circumstances.
Compensation will be based on the extent of the personal injury suffered
and of course on consequential items such as earnings (see injury at
work) and other out of pocket expenses. You can claim back cycle repair
or replacement costs by making a cycling accident claim. You may also
recover the costs of much needed physiotherapy, medication, services
(such as gardening / DIY costs etc) and much more. By receiving damages
for these items you are aiding your recovery and easing any financial
burdens that your injuries may have brought upon you. The process
involved in making a claim is actually more straightforward than people
realise.
